On August 29 of 2007, Minister WAN Gang, Vice Minister CAO Jianlin and Beijing municipal authorities attended a consultation meeting on the 14th World Congress on Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) and the clean-energy automobile for the 2008 Olympics. Representatives of Beijing included Executive Mayor JI Lin, Vice Mayor ZHAO Fengtong, and Vice Mayor SUN Anmin.
According to WAN, given that the World Congress on ITS has a great impact on the transport community across the globe, Beijing¡¯s hosting of its 14th session presents a golden opportunity to demonstrate the application of clean-fuel automobiles. Foreign friends could experience for themselves the traffic in Beijing and hopefully that could further raise the city¡¯s profile.
Vice Mayor JI Lin set requirements for the run-up to the events. He suggested that as a highlight of the 2008 Olympics, the clean-energy automobile should be available in downtown areas and major service areas. The Beijing Government stands willing and ready to collaborate with MOST.
