Minister WAN Gang inspected the National Swimming Center (or Water Cube) and other main Olympic venues, which carried on the energy-saving and emission-reduction project for Hi-tech Olympics.
According to WAN, with the common effort made by scientists and engineers, the concept of Hi-tech Olympics was transformed into world-class results of indigenous innovation, providing great S&T support for the 2008 Olympics. Olympics is a precious opportunity for S&T innovation and the development of the hi-tech industry, in particular, the R&D and application of the energy-saving and emission-reduction technology.
WAN emphasized that the next-stage priorities for the Hi-tech Olympics were a batch of key projects revolving around the task of energy-saving and emission-reduction, corresponding with the actual needs to win the decisive battle of 2008 Olympic run-up. To win the battle, the whole S&T community must be motivated and well-organized to launch the projects, including the clean vehicle like the electric vehicle, the application of green energy such as solar energy, the energy-saving technology and equipment (e.g. LED), and comprehensive use of water resources such as storm, flood and reclaimed water.
