On September 9-10, an expert panel meeting passed the plan for building National Laboratory for Marine Science and Technology (or NaLMaST for short). NaLMaST will be jointly set up in Qingdao by the Ocean University of China, Institute of Oceanology of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the First Institute of Oceanography of SOA, the Huanghai Institute of Ministry of Agriculture, and the Institute of Geology of the Ministry of Land and Resources. The plan is in line with the requirement of developing marine S&T, and makes full use of existing resources of the five undertakers, reflecting a concept of resource integration, as the panel said. According to the National Outline for Medium and Long Term S&T Development, establishment of nine other national labs will be initiated.
