China-Japan Training Workshop on CDM Cooperation Inaugurated

December 18, 2006 witnessed the inauguration of China-Japan Training Workshop on CDM Cooperation in Beijing. The event was sponsored by JICA, undertaken by MOST and implemented by Administrative Center for China¡¯s Agenda 21. Participants of the inauguration ceremony included representatives from Department of Social Development of MOST, Office of National Coordination Committee on Climate Change, Administrative Center for China¡¯s Agenda 21, the Japanese Embassy in China and JICA, as well as experts from both countries and the trainees.

50 trainees from 17 localities in China took part in the five-day workshop, a majority of who were officials in charge of CDM and experts on technical service.

China-Japan cooperation in CDM enjoys good prospects, evident in China¡¯s great potential of CDM project development and Japan¡¯s bulk demand of project cooperation. So far out of the 164 CDM projects approved by the Chinese Government, only 18 involved Japanese counterparts. Therefore the aim of the workshop is to build up the capacity of CDM project development and of international cooperation and fully tap the potential of bilateral cooperation.
