On February 6, the inception meeting for the joint project of developing China’s CDM to achieve the millennium development goals was co-held by MOST, United Nations Development Program and China International Center for Economic and Technical Exchanges. Vice Minister Liu Yanhua, Head of the UN System in China Khalid Malik and Director General of CICETE Wang Yue attended and addressed the meeting.

The project has effectively integrated the UN Millennium Development Goals of poverty eradication, sustainable development promotion and developing through global cooperation with mitigating greenhouse gas emissions with joint CDM project. Within 2 years, 3 activities will be carried out to develop China’s CDM project and expand the carbon market, with an aim to attract more funds and provide more advanced technologies for the less-developed area in the country, to promote development of economy and society and to expedite poverty eradication. These 3 activities are, formulating a strategic plan for target carbon market development, CDM Capacity Building and project development in 12 trial provinces, and expanding the carbon market by strengthening the public-private partnership.
