China and Germany to Continue In-depth Cooperation in Renewable Transport Energy

Since MOST and the Federal Ministry of Transport, Building and Urban Affairs of Germany signed the "Memorandum on Cooperation in the New Renewable Transport Energy Application Sector" on 1 December 2003, the two governments have been organizing enterprises and scientific institutions of respective country to carry out fruitful cooperation under this cooperation framework. In order to promote and deepen mutual cooperation in this sector, MOST invited Mr. Joerg Hennerkes, State Secretary, Federal Ministry of Transport, Building & Urban Affairs, Germany to visit China on 25 and 26 of January 2007. Mr. Joerg Hennerkes met with SHANG Yong, Vice Minister of Science and Technology and attended the Third Conference of China-Germany Steering Committee for Cooperation in Renewable Transport Energy.

This intergovernmental meeting and the successful holding of the steering committee conference have become a distinctive mark showing that cooperation between China and Germany has entered a new stage. This is also a concrete course of action taken by MOST to implement the common understanding reached by Premier WEN Jiabao on strengthening technical cooperation in the renewable energy sector during his visit to Germany in September 2006.
