Vice Minister CAO Jianlin met GIF Chairman Mr. Jacques Bouchard in China on July 27, 2007.
Vice Minister CAO pointed out that the Chinese government not only attached great importance to energy conservation and emission reduction, but also promoted new energy development. China put forward special action plans on energy conservation and emission reduction, planning to reduce energy consumption per unit GDP by 20% and pollution emission by 10% by 2010. MOST also proposed S&T action plans of responding to global environmental changes together with other ministries concerned, which offered a favorable environment for nuclear energy development.
Mr. Bouchard highly praised China¡¯s economic achievements and paid tribute to China for attending GIF. He introduced that GIF had already ushered in a new era after two years of preparation. He hoped that China could sign the GIF Framework Agreement as soon as possible to start the mutually beneficial cooperation.
