On December 8-11 of 2007, the 1st National Academic Symposium on Biological Invasion was held in Fuzhou City of Fujian Province. 472 researchers and management staff from 127 institutes nationwide had discussions about the theoretical and technical problems on alien invasive species, such as inheritance and variation, biology and ecology, prevention and warning, detection and monitoring, and control and management in China. The aim was to effectively prevent and control biological invasion.
Currently there are over 400 alien species invading China, which causes huge negative impacts on biological diversity, human health and relevant industries such as agriculture and forestry. The symposium promotes the exchange and cooperation of scientists, facilities the sharing of research results and information, and drives the development of related scientific research, disciplines and cultivation of professionals.
