From July 29 to 30, the 2008 Forum on Oceanic Frontier Technologies was held in Guangzhou. It was jointly hosted by China’s 863 Program, the Department of Earth Sciences of National Natural Science Foundation and the Administrative Center for China’s Agenda 21, and organized by Sun Yat-sen University.

With the theme of exploring marine frontier technologies, advocating indigenous innovation and achieving leapfrogging development, this event covers seven technologies including marine environment monitoring, marine acoustics, deep-sea probe, marine oil & gas exploration and development, marine oil & gas engineering, marine microbe and functional gene development and utilization, and the development and utilization of oceanic natural products and bio-products. Over 180 experts addressed the forum.
