Vice Minister Cao Meets with UNDP Resident Representative to China Alain Noud¨¦hou

 

 

On July 7, 2014, Vice Minister Cao Jianlin met with UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative to China Alain Noud¨¦hou in MOST.
Mr. Noud¨¦hou spoke highly of the cooperation between MOST and UNDP. Mr. Noud¨¦hou mentioned that the world faced common challenges of environment, transportation and energy. UNDP is dedicated to seeking solutions to these challenges with reliance on science and technology. With China assuming leadership in poverty reduction and clean energy, UNDP hopes to strengthen cooperation with MOST in poverty reduction and fuel cell vehicles so as to promote South-South cooperation.
Vice Minister Cao reviewed the cooperation between MOST and UNDP in poverty reduction, rural development and fuel cell vehicles. MOST and UNDP agreed upon the importance of science and technology to poverty reduction in rural areas, developed a series of applicable agricultural technologies, and promoted technical task forces. Vice Minister Cao pointed out that attention should not only be paid to rural areas, but also to urban employment challenges caused by upgrading of traditional industries. To address climate change, Vice Minister Cao suggested expanding cooperation with UNDP to a wider spectrum of areas, such as solar energy, wind energy, biomass energy, and fuel cells. Vice Minister Cao emphasized that, as the biggest developing country, China was willing to share its experience with other developing countries and improve the wellbeing of the people in the world.
Mr. Chen Linhao, Deputy Director-General of International Cooperation, Mr. Chen Jiachang, Deputy Director-General of High and New Technology Development and Industrialization, and Mr. Jia Jingdun, Director-General of China Rural Technology Development Center were present at the meeting.
