Chinese Taskforce for China-South Korea Innovation & Entrepreneurship Park Held First Meeting in Beijing

In order to implement a series of important instructions and comments given by Premier Li Keqiang and other state leaders on building the China-South Korea Innovation & Entrepreneurship Park in Chengdu, the MOST arranged the first meeting of the Chinese taskforce mandated to establish the park on April 29, 2016. The meeting looked back on the preparatory work in the initial stage, discussed policy measures to be rolled out to support the park and laid out job priorities in the next stage. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Wan Gang, the Minister of MOST. Lin Nianxiu, Vice Chairman of the National Development and Reform Commission, Li Meng, Vice Minister of MOST, and Liu Jie, Vice Governor of Sichuan. Members of the taskforce include Xin Changxing, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and Head of State Administration of Civil Service, Gao Yan, Vice Minister of Commerce, Zhou Changkui, Secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League, and Tang Liangzhi, Deputy Secretary of the CPC Chengdu Municipal Committee and Mayor of Chengdu. Also in attendance were liaison officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Science and Technology, the Ministry of Land and Resources, the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development, the State Administration of Taxation, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Commerce, as well as the People¡¯s Governments of Sichuan Province and Chengdu Municipality. Department heads at the Ministry of Public Security were also present.

Dr. Wan Gang conveyed the spirit of a series of important instructions and comments given by Premier Li Keqiang and other state leaders and reported the composition of the taskforce and its work rules. The MOST and South Korean Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning have signed the MOU on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Cooperation. The MOST has worked together with the Sichuan and Chengdu governments and relevant ministries to accelerate the construction of the park. The State Council has approved the Chinese taskforce to be led by the MOST and composed of representatives from 12 national departments and the governments of Sichuan and Chengdu.

Vice Minister Li Meng introduced the preparatory work ahead of the park construction. Liu Jie, Vice Governor of Sichuan, introduced innovation cooperation between Sichuan and South Korea. Participants of the meeting also discussed support measures and policies to expedite the park construction. All departments involved agreed that building the park is a significant matter agreed by the top government leaders in China and South Korea, and also a prominent project to advance the two countries¡¯ pragmatic cooperation.
