29th Symposium on Fusion Technology Held in Prague

The 29th Symposium on Fusion Technology (SOFT 2016) was officially unveiled at the Prague Congress Centre on September 6, 2016. The Nuclear Fusion Center of Ministry of Science and Technology dispatched delegates to attend the meeting.

The biennial SOFT is a grand gathering in the global fusion technology field. The SOFT symposium attracts over 800 scientists, engineers, industry representatives and exhibitors to attend. Featuring plenary reports, posters and industrial and R&D exhibitions, SOFT 2016 showcased the latest R&D progress in the global fusion world, covering over a dozen fields such as existing fusion devices, ITER construction, future fusion demonstrative reactor design and fusion material technologies. Jointly organized by the Institute of Plasma Physics of the Czech Academy of Sciences and the Research Centre Rez, the symposium has also invited the Head of the Directorate-General for Energy of the European Commission, the Director-General of the ITER Organization of the ITER Project, currently the worldĄŻs largest mega science cooperation program, and the President of the Czech Academy of Sciences to make thematic reports. CAS Member Li Jiangang has also been invited to report on the research progress of China Fusion Engineering Test Reactor (CFETR) Project.

The 5-day symposium presented nearly 80 oral reports, over 800 posters and several industrial and R&D exhibitions. Fusion energy, as an important solution to future energy problems facing mankind, is attracting more scientists and young scholars around the world. Another highlight of the conference is the inauguration of a SOFT Innovation Award for young scientists in the fusion field.
