The Second World Nuclear Energy Development Forum sponsored by the China Nuclear Energy Association was held in Beijing on April 28th, 2017. Its theme is to develop nuclear energy to cope with global climate change. The Forum brought together government officials from various countries, leaders of international organizations and executives of enterprises and public institutions in the nuclear field. It was divided into 4 major sections and featured thematic discussions on how to develop China¡¯s nuclear energy industry during the span of the 13th Five-Year Plan, strategies of the circular development of nuclear power and fuel, nuclear energy security, and scientific and technological innovation. Meanwhile, participants also had in-depth roundtable discussion on the opportunities and challenges for tripartite cooperation in a project conducted in the UK, nuclear power development and public communication among other hot topics.
Director Luo Delong of the China International Nuclear Fusion Energy Program Execution Center, Ministry of Science and Technology was invited to attend the Forum and gave a presentation on fusion energy. He elaborated on the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) project, China¡¯s participation as one of its 7 members, and how innovation has injected vitality into the development of nuclear energy.
The Forum serves as an important channel of communication among countries in the nuclear energy field. It has effectively promoted technological exchanges and cooperation and played a very active role in the healthy development of the nuclear energy around the world.
